Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering or 7 years of pump troubleshooting experience
•Must have 5 years of pump and system field troubleshooting experience or equivalent
•Must be able to travel 50%-75% of the time (most frequently short durations)
•Must be a motivated and energetic self-starter. Must have a high sense of urgency with regard to recognition of equipment & process issues and commercial opportunities.
•Must prepare, document & execute services and solutions for customer.
•Interpersonal skills are critical for optimum communication with customers.
•Must be proficient with the Microsoft Office suite of products (MSWord, MS Excel, PowerPoint)
•Must have the ability to produce professional engineering reports which are factual, accurate, and concise. Conclusions & recommendations must be feasible, economical, and based on sound engineering practices & in keeping with Company policies & objectives.
•A PIE services all industries that Flowserve serves including power plants, oil refineries, chemical plants, pipelines, etc. A good working knowledge one or more of these industries is critical.
•Experience with instrumentation and data collection methods such as portable flow monitoring, pressure sensing.
•A working knowledge of rotating equipment, vibration monitoring and analysis. Vibration level I or higher certification is preferred.
•The candidate is someone who can acclimate quickly to the variations in the configuration and equipment found at different customer plants and sites. Must have the ability to recognize equipment and process improvement opportunities, develop and execute the solution.
A Pump Improvement Engineer (PIE) identifies & analyzes root causes of pump system degradation or failure. A PIE will provide the technical, communication & leadership skills needed to understand all engineering, manufacturing & repair facets of the equipment, analyze & resolve unique operating problems, and blend the Aftermarket Businesses objectives effectively with customers, sales, service centers, manufacturing & engineering. A PIE also participates in field data collection for complex pumping system analysis/assessments. The incumbent maintains constant interface with other PIEs, Marketing & Application Engineers & Supervisors, Central Assessment Team Engineers, Service Center Managers, Sales Engineers, R&D Management, and Division Product Engineers. Interface & strong relationship with customers are essential. The incumbent will travel approximately 50%-75% of the time, to visit customer sites & Service Centers to evaluate equipment & systems, and present programs & pump upgrades. Travel is most frequently short duration with company vehicle. A PIE maintains and uses the most current pumping system analysis instrumentation in this critical, independently operating role.
Develop strong customer support with a technology focus.
•Determine pump related problem issues through customer interviews.
•Provides sales assistance for engineering consulting services for pump problem identification and solution as well as predictive and preventative maintenance programs.
•Analyze pump/system performance through in-field vibration & performance testing.
•Perform system & operations analysis and determine impact of system variables on pump reliability & performance.
•Perform field collection and analysis to support Technical Assessments.
•Work through Technical Service Engineering, Product engineering & Corporate Technology to determine “as needed” solutions to pump problems.
•Prepare detailed, professional pump/system assessment reports.
•Provide assistance in developing work scope & price to solve equipment problems though pump/system/operations modifications & upgrades.
•Provide technical seminars to customers & local FPD personnel as needed
